The Nissan Pathfinder was first introduced in 1987 and was at first a two-door body-on-frame SUV that was derived from the Datsun Truck. As the popularity of the SUV grew Nissan introduced a 4 door version and introduced it to the US market which did very well. The second generation Pathfinder slowly shifted the position of the model to the luxury segment with the introduction of the unibody design which improved the performance of the suspension.

The third generation Pathfinder was a major improvement over the previous model and echoed closely the design of its truck sibling, the Nissan Navara. The Pathfinder exhibited virtually the same bumper, grille, headlight design, the interior design and overall profile of the Nissan Navara that it is difficult to differentiate one from the other.

The 4th Generation of the Nissan Pathfinder was a complete overhaul and the design drifted away from its utilitarian sibling the Navara. The Nissan Pathfinder has three variants namely the Nissan Pathfinder S, SV, Hybrid SV, and SL.
